Emotion Code®: Release the Trapped Emotions That Are Running Your Life

What Is the Emotion Code®?

The Emotion Code® is a gentle, non-invasive healing method developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson that identifies and releases trapped emotions from the body. These are real, energetic imprints of emotions that — for one reason or another — didn't fully process when they happened. They got stuck.

Think of it this way: when something painful, overwhelming, or confusing happens, your body sometimes can't fully process the emotional charge in the moment. And there are many reasons for that — we're simply not taught how to process emotions or difficult experiences. Since that unprocessed emotion doesn't disappear, your body stores it, as if you might need it later. You don't. But it stays.

These trapped emotions can lodge in your muscles, your organs, your energy field — and they keep influencing you, often in ways you can't quite explain. You might feel inexplicably anxious without knowing why. You might find yourself pulling away from people who love you. You might carry a heaviness in your chest that no amount of journaling or therapy has fully reached. A trapped emotion might be behind it.

Here's something important to understand: negative emotions are not the enemy. They are vibrational frequencies generated by your organs and glands in response to stress, experience, or imbalance — and they are a normal, valuable part of your internal guidance system. The problem isn't feeling them. The problem is when they don't complete their natural cycle.

An emotion becomes trapped when it's overwhelming in some way, or when the normal process — creating it, experiencing it, and letting it go — gets interrupted. When that happens, it doesn't dissolve. It becomes a ball of vibrating energy, roughly the size of your clenched fist, lodged somewhere in the body where it continues to exert a distorting force on your energy field — and on your life.

Where Do Trapped Emotions Come From?

This is where things get really interesting — and where the Emotion Code® goes far deeper than most people expect. There are actually six different types of trapped emotions, and they don't all originate in your own lifetime:

Common Trapped Emotions: These are emotions you trapped after you were born — in response to your own life experiences. They're the most common type and are often the first ones we address in a session.

Prenatal Trapped Emotions: These are emotions absorbed from your mother while she was pregnant with you. Before you had words or memories, you were already taking in the emotional landscape of the world around you.

Preconception Trapped Emotions: These are emotions trapped before you came into this world. Some people understand these as emotions carried in from past lives — arriving with you as part of your soul's history.

Inherited Trapped Emotions: These are emotions passed down through your family line — from a parent, grandparent, or even further back. What's remarkable is that we can identify and release these even if you were adopted or never knew your biological family. The inheritance is energetic, not just genetic.

Shared Trapped Emotions: These are emotions that two people felt simultaneously and trapped together — in the same moment, during the same experience. The emotional imprint is shared between both people.

Absorbed Trapped Emotions: These are emotions taken on in an attempt to help someone else — a kind of energetic empathy that backfires. Because we can't actually carry someone else's pain for them, both people end up holding the same trapped emotion. If you've ever been told you're highly sensitive or an empath, this type may resonate deeply with you.

The Emotion Code® works with all six types. It accesses your subconscious — the part of you that holds the complete record of every experience you've had — to identify exactly what's ready to be released, and in what order.

How Does an Emotion Code® Session Work?

I use muscle testing (also called applied kinesiology) to access your subconscious mind and identify specific trapped emotions. Your subconscious knows exactly what's stored and what emotions are currently creating disruption in the area we're working on. Muscle testing gives us a direct line to that intelligence.

Once a trapped emotion is identified — its name, the approximate age it became lodged, and sometimes a little context about where it came from — I release it using a specific intention and a magnet or my hand drawn along the Governing Meridian, the energy superhighway that runs along the spine.

It's remarkably simple. And remarkably effective.

You don't need to relive anything. You don't need to talk through painful memories in detail. Your body knows what happened. We just need to create the conditions for it to let go.

What Can the Emotion Code® Help With?

  • Chronic emotional pain, anxiety, sadness, or anger without a clear cause

  • Relationship patterns that keep repeating

  • Difficulty trusting, connecting, or opening up

  • Self-sabotage and blocks to receiving abundance

  • Physical symptoms connected to emotional stress

  • Grief that feels impossible to move through

  • A persistent sense of stuckness or heaviness

  • Inherited family patterns and generational wounds

  • The sense that you've done the work — and something still won't shift

The Heart Wall — And Why It Matters

One of the most profound discoveries in the Emotion Code® is the Heart Wall.

When we experience deep emotional pain, the subconscious sometimes builds a protective barrier of trapped emotions around the heart — to shield us from future hurt. This is a survival mechanism, and it makes complete sense. At some point, your heart needed protecting. So your subconscious built a wall.

But a Heart Wall doesn't just block pain. It also blocks love, connection, joy, and the ability to fully give and receive. You might feel disconnected from others, lonely, sad, anxious, or strangely unmotivated — even when your life looks fine on the outside. Some people also experience physical symptoms like neck and shoulder tension as a result.

Most people have a Heart Wall made up of between five and twenty-five emotional layers. Each one is a trapped emotion — sometimes from your own life, sometimes inherited. As we release them one by one, the wall comes down. And when it does, people often describe feeling something open that they didn't even realize had been closed.

Many clients tell me that clearing their Heart Wall is the most transformative thing they've ever done for themselves.

It's worth noting that the Heart Wall unfolds at its own pace. The subconscious guides us — sometimes we release one layer in a session, sometimes several. We always follow what your body is ready for, not a timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Emotion Code®

Is this the same as the Body Code®?

The Emotion Code® is actually part of the larger Body Code® system. The Emotion Code® focuses specifically on trapped emotions. The Body Code® uses the same foundation but expands to identify imbalances across six categories: energy, circuitry, toxins, pathogens, structural issues, and nutrition. In my sessions, I often use both depending on what your body needs.

Do I need to remember where an emotion came from?

No. Your subconscious has the full record. You don't need to consciously remember, explain, or relive anything. The work happens at a level beneath conscious memory.

Can the Emotion Code® be done remotely?

Yes, and it's just as effective. Energy is not bound by physical distance. My sessions are available virtually and work exactly the same way as in-person sessions.

How do I experience the Emotion Code® with you?

Emotion Code® work is woven into my custom sessions. I follow your energy and your body's readiness — we use whatever tools are needed in the moment.

“During the session, I found a couple of times when I felt lighter. Sometimes I felt a little giddy, like I wanted to laugh and smile.

Since then, I have felt pretty good in general. I think somehow different, but it's difficult to tell. Maybe more peaceful inside.

For the last several months, in between the pain and suffering, I have been feeling very mellow, calm, and focused internally. I don't feel much excitement or like looking outward much.

That seems the same before and after this session. I feel like I'm being more aware of myself and my thoughts and my emotions and what I need, than I perhaps have been in the years past. That's a good thing.”
